"H.S.O.T.T. Aram A. Catholicos strongly condemns the ongoing arrest of Armenian clergymen.
Months ago, H.E. Aram A. His Holiness had publicly condemned the arrest of the clergy and had even offered to stop this unacceptable phenomenon through mediators.
His Eminence, being on a pontifical visit now and knowing closely about the ongoing arrests, again condemns this unacceptable phenomenon.
At the same time, His Holiness the Holy Father gave duty to Gersh. T. Shahan Arch. Sargisian to convey his concern and condemnation to political and state officials and even to the Prime Minister.
The approach to His Holiness the Pope is that the current unhealthy state of the church-state should be put to an end, and the best interests of our nation and the Motherland require that the relationship between the two important pillars of our nation, the state and the church, be close and strong."
