On October 22, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski announced the decision to close the Russian Consulate General in Poznan; its staff will be forced to leave the republic in the coming days. Until this moment, three consulates general of the Russian Federation operated in Poland - in Krakow in the south, in Poznan in the west and in Gdansk in the north of the country.
Three Polish consulates remain open in Russia - in Kaliningrad, St. Petersburg and Irkutsk.
In addition, Sikorsky did not rule out the possible expulsion of the Russian ambassador in the future. Zakharova said that the Russian Federation will not delay in responding to Poland’s decision to close the Consulate General in Poznan. She also noted that Moscow has once again witnessed the manifestation of official Warsaw “unbridled Russophobia, coupled with some kind of painful spy mania.”
