Deputy Environment Minister Aram Maymyan took part in the 37th Session of the 5th World Congress (WCBR) and the "Man and Biosphere" intergovernmental council (MAB-ICC).
Speaking at the ministerial session, the Deputy Minister presented Armenia's national position, emphasizing the country's readiness to improve the involvement of communities and education, to promote nature-based solutions, as well as to ensure the participation of women, youth, local self-government bodies and communities.
Aram Meimaryan stressed that Armenia is going to nominate a UNESCO's biosphere for the first time. The region has been elected to the Dilijan National Park, where botanical, zoos and socio-economic studies have already been conducted, and the area's functions are planned, basic, buffer and transition zones. This initiative is implemented in cooperation with state bodies, local communities and international partners.
The Deputy Minister also emphasized the fact that Armenia will host the COP17 conference on the UN Convention on Biodiversity in 2026. On this path, our country aims to show how to become a platform for global biodiversity (30 × 30) to restore the purpose of "30 × 30" protection.
With these steps, Armenia aims to maintain, preserve the generations of the rich biodiversity of our country, combining the preservation and sustainable development of nature.
