The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia has submitted a draft amendments to the Law on Military Service and Soldier's Law, which proposes to set the obligatory military service for 18 months. According to the project, the change will be implemented since the 2026 summer conscription.

The groundwork states that the RA Government's 2021-2026 program envisages reduction of compulsory military service due to the increase in the volume of contract service.

The Ministry of Defense considered it expedient to reduce the 24-month compulsory military service for the 2026 conscription for 6 months, setting 18 months.
