48-year-old Asma Asad, the wife of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, was diagnosed with acute leukemia, writes TASS.

About five years ago, it was reported that she had successfully completed treatment for breast cancer. Asma was born in London to a doctor's family. The couple have three children: Hafez, Zain and Karim.
