The United Nations warns of "catastrophic" famine in Gaza

The main indicators of food consumption in the Gaza Strip reached their worst levels, the UN World Food Program (WFP) reported, citing the data of the International Monitoring Integrated Food Safety Stage (IPC) initiative.

Some parts of the enclave have already exceeded two of the three thresholds of hunger, the report states, and the ADF and UNICEF warn that "time is exhausted to get a complete humanitarian response."
"The ongoing conflict, the collapse of basic services and the highly limited restrictions on the supply and distribution of the United Nations have led to hundreds of thousands of people in catastrophic food insecurity," the statement said.

They noted that food consumption has dropped sharply compared to May. More than one third of the population (39%) had to stay hungry for several days. More than 500,000 people, almost a quarter of the Gaza population live in the conditions of hunger.
