Iran has started building walls along its borders

Iran has started building walls on its eastern borders to counter security threats, the commander of the country's border police, Brigadier General Ahmad Ali Gudarzi, said, Mehr reports.

According to the Iranian general, this initiative is aimed at preventing the smuggling of fuel, goods and, in particular, drugs, as well as solving the problem of illegal immigration.

He emphasized that the priority of this project is to ensure the security of the border with Afghanistan and Pakistan.

"Based on security assessments and military considerations, the most important areas are the borders with Pakistan and Afghanistan, which account for 80% of the drug traffic to Iran," General Gudarzi explained.

According to him, the construction of border walls has already started in the southern Sistan and Baluchistan provinces, as well as in the Khorasan-Rezavi provinces, noting that the next phase will cover the provinces of Ilam, Kurdistan and West Azerbaijan, which are located on the western borders of the country. General Gudarzi said that funding for the project has been secured and attention is now focused on retrofitting the construction sites.
