The mayor of Yerevan received the UN Resident Coordinator François Jacobi in Armenia. This was reported by the Yerevan Municipality.
Touching upon the joint programs, Tigran Avinyan highlighted the program cooperation of the Yerevan Municipality with the UN team and various UN agencies, such as the UN Development Program (UNDP). In 2026, Yerevan will host the COP17 (17th Conference on the UN Convention on Biodiversity), Mayor Avinyan said that the Yerevan Municipality provides organizational assistance within its powers.
"As a host city, we are closely involved in the organizational process. This is a significant event for Armenia, positioning Yerevan as a key player in global climate dialogue, "said the mayor.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed the issues and challenges in the field of improving air quality. Tigran Avinyan said that the Yerevan Municipality has developed a four-year air quality program, which includes all possible steps that will help reduce air pollution. In order to apply effective solutions, Yerevan is also studying the experience of partner cities.
Thanking for the warm reception and reform programs, the UN Resident Coordinator Francois Jacobi, in his turn, noted that the UN team attaches importance to various programs of cooperation with Yerevan Municipality and expressed readiness to support new projects.
