As we have already said, this year, about 90 representatives of about 90 countries have confirmed their participation in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (PMF). In a conversation with "fact", political scientist Aghvan Poghosyan notes that if we compare it to the same period last year, a new record has been set.
"The number of approved participants has increased by about 5%, which is explained by the results of the previous conferences. For Armenia, which receives the biggest advantages of trade and economic partnerships and, in general, from integration, PMF platform has really become a window for mutually beneficial cooperation with the countries of the global southern countries. And this moment must be used, "says our interlocutor. He notes that according to official data, Armenia's GDP growth in 2024 was 5.9 percent. The foreign trade turnover increased by 41.5% compared to 2023 and made more than $ 30 billion. Russia, the UAE and China are Russia's main trading partners. Russia accounts for more than 40% of the republic or $ 11.7 billion. The volume of Russian investments accumulated in Armenia in the field of investment amounted to $ 4 billion. Russian large Russian enterprises are considered from Armenia's largest taxpayers.
According to Aghvan Poghosyan, these figures show at least three points. "First of all, the real growth of Armenia's economy is provided today, Russia and China.
In this respect, the West remains significantly behind what is explained by its conjunctural interest. Therefore, Eurasian and Asian projects are the key to economic growth.
Second, today it is important for Armenia not to be given to the political manipules of foreign players. Participation in PMPF allows many participating countries to announce their independence from the political and economic pressure of the Western countries. It is in their national interests, increases the economic subjectivity in regional projects. Third, Armenia must be more active at PMP-2025. Many decisions made in the forums earlier have already brought results. Thus, for example, within the framework of the PMIF-2023, Russian Deputy Minister of Economic Development Dmitry Vakhkov and Deputy Minister of Economy of Armenia Narek Teryan signed a roadmap for expanding cooperation in the field of tourism. In 2024, about 1 million Russian visits were registered, which is 40% of all tourists visiting Armenia. The air communication between Armenia and Russia is well developed, about 100 flights are carried out weekly on 12 routes. The adoption of the document has strengthened cooperation between the two countries' tourism business. "
