Increases in water output. Which rivers in Armenia are the most risky?

Today, on October 17, significant increases in water output are expected in Armenia, especially in the central, northern and northeastern regions of the republic. Head of Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center Amalya Misakyan said this in a conversation with Sputnik Armenia.

Gagik Surenyan, deputy director of the hydrometeorology and monitoring center, said earlier that due to heavy rainfall, a significant increase in water flow is expected in most rivers of the republic on October 17-18.

"It can include the basin of the Kasakh River, Pambak, Dzoraget, all river basins can be included, even more increases can be observed in the Azat River basin. But the temperature course is also very important here. A decrease in temperature is expected in the following days, so if there is an increase in river water flows on October 17, they will gradually subside from the 18th of the month, and parallel to the decrease in temperature, we will have a decrease in flows," said Misakyan.

Answering the question about possible floods, the possibility of rivers overflowing, he emphasized that the nature of precipitation is very important for this forecast.

"If they fall with great intensity in a very short period of time, in that case, naturally, we will have much higher outputs. And if that large volume of precipitation is observed for a longer period of time, the rise of river discharges in those rivers will not be abrupt, but gradual, and the formation of dangerous discharges will not occur," explained Misakyan.

Nevertheless, according to professional estimates, water flows in Armenian rivers will increase several times today and tomorrow. Therefore, the Center for Hydrometeorology and Monitoring has informed the governorates, the crisis management center and all those structures and departments that need to make decisions and inform the population about possible risks.

During this time, citizens are advised to stay away from rivers.
