Georgia has adopted a law on foreign agents like the US FARA

Georgia has entered into force on the registration of "Foreign Agents", which is the exact analogue of the American FARA (foreign agent registration). The date of entry into force of the law is mentioned in the official portal of the Georgian legislative bulletin, where the normative acts are published.

The Georgian parliament passed the law in a third and final reading on April 1. Unlike the Law on External influence, which was adopted against the background of mass protests last year, the American equivalent of FARA plans to five years in prison and refers to both organizations and individuals. It entered into force on the 60th day after the publication in the "Legislative Bulletin" portal.

Georgia's anti-corruption bureau will follow the use of a new law. According to the law, the individual or organization, as well as any union of individuals, is considered a foreign agent if their activities in Georgia serve the interests of a foreign state and are funded by abroad.
