Japan and the United States may hold the third round of talks on customs duties on May 23. This was reported by Kyodo.
The Minister of Economic Restoration Riosey Akazava is expected to leave for Washington, presenting Japan to negotiations on customs duties and trade policy with the United States.
According to the Japanese media, the Japanese side discussed the package of proposals, which included increasing corn and soybeans from the United States, a technical cooperation in the field of shipbuilding and reviewing American car test criteria.
In return, Japan wants to eliminate US customs duties on cars and parts, which form the spine of its export economy, as well as steel and aluminum customs duties.
Japan and the United States have already held two rounds of talks. As Akazawa reported in early May, they still agreed.
According to Japanese media, US representatives refused to even discuss higher cars, steel and aluminum customs duties in early May during the second round of talks with Akazawa.
