Prime Minister Kobakhidze has been elected a new president of the ruling party of Georgia

Prime Minister Irakli Kobachidze has been elected a new leader of the ruling Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia party. The party members voted in favor of his candidacy at the congress of the Political Association, which was broadcast on local TV channels.

"By the decision of the Congress, Mr. Irakli Kobakhidze unanimously elected chairman of the Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia Political Union," said the party's executive secretary Mamuka Mdinaradze.

Former Georgian Dream President, former Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili announced his departure from politics on April 25, excluding the possibility of joining the opposition.
