Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has received a high representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaya Kalasi, with whom discussed issues related to energy cooperation.
According to the Azerbaijani media, they also touched upon the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace process. Kaya Callas said that the EU and Azerbaijan have established successful and effective cooperation in the energy sector.
Touching upon transport ties, Kallas stressed the role of Azerbaijan, as an important regional state. Aliyev stated that Azerbaijan is a reliable partner of the European Union. He touched upon the role of the South gas corridor.
According to him, Azerbaijan supplies gas to 10 European countries, 8 of which are members of the European Union. The President noted that the geographical involvement of gas supplies Azerbaijan is one of the first gas providing the European territory. He also highlighted the role of Azerbaijan in the development of the energy corridor of Transcaia, as well as in the Black Sea in the implementation of projects with the participation of Georgia, Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria.
Ilham Aliyev said that there are a wide range of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU in the field of transport.
The parties also exchanged views on the issue of providing lasting stability in the South Caucasus. According to Azerbaijani media reports, Aliyev said that steps are currently underway, and negotiations are underway to normalize relations with Armenia.
