US President Donald Trump's threats to connect to Greenland have forced Norwegian and Iceland to think about EU membership. The French newspaper Le Figaro writes about this.
According to the publication, Norway and Iceland are part of the Schengen and European Economic Area and apply the rules of the unified market, but do not have the right to vote. Some Norwegian politicians were no longer satisfied with the new customs duties.
"Europe needs Europe, and Europe and Norway need it," said earlier the country's Prime Minister Jonas Gahr. The leader of the conservative opposition Edna Solberg, who can come to power after the September elections, has also been in favor of EU membership in the EU.
Norwegian has previously refused to join the European Union since the referendums in 1972 and 1984. According to Le Figaro, 43% of the population of the Scandinavian country still does not support such an initiative, and 37% have been in favor.
