US President Donald Trump is open to a trade deal with China. White House Spokesman Caroline Levit said this at a regular briefing for journalists, commenting on the sharp increase in customs duties on Beijing's imports and his response.
"The president said very clearly that he was open to the deal with China," said the US leader's spokesman.
"He is optimistic," Levit added, referring to the prospects of the Trump, China and the United States's trade transaction.
"If China continues to counteract, it will not be good for China," said a White House official.
