Egyptian representatives unexpectedly canceled meetings with Israeli counterparts

Egyptian officials have canceled the planned negotiations with Israeli officials due to the escalation of differences, i24 TV channel reports.

According to the news agency, they are related to Cairo's concerns about Israel's military operations in the city of Rafah on the border with Egypt in the Gaza Strip.

According to the source, the decision follows Egypt's support for South Africa's submission to the International Court of Justice accusing Israel of genocide against the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip.

Last week, the command of Egypt's armed forces issued a warning to troops in the Sinai Peninsula after the Israeli Defense Forces seized the Rafah border crossing from Gaza.

Egypt has also stepped up surveillance drone flights in the area.

According to the UAE newspaper The National, the Israeli army's entry into the Rafah crossing from the Palestinian side, which is the only land route to the enclave and was not previously under Israeli control, has sparked public outrage in Egypt.

Rafah is the last major settlement in the Gaza Strip where Israel has yet to launch a major operation against Palestinian militants.
