The last court hearing in this case took place on March 14. Judge Mikheil Ginjolian gave Saakashvili the opportunity to make a final speech, but the former Georgian leader refused to complete the trial and retired to publish the verdict, which will be published on March 17.
Saakashvili was charged with crossing illegal border in October 2021 immediately after returning to Georgia. In addition to Saakashvili, four men who, according to investigators, have also been charged with the case. Their deeds are considered separately. The former Georgian president may receive up to five years in prison to illegally cross the border.
On March 12, the Tbilisi City Court guilty of embezzlement of more than $ 3.2 million to Saakashvili and sentenced to 9 years in prison. By the decision of the court, the former Saakashvili security head Teymuraz Janashia was also found guilty of 300,000 GEL (more than 107 thousand dollars).
