The group of researchers at the University of Concepson has discovered a rare frog, Alsodes Vittatus population, which has not appeared more than 130 years. The species was first described in 1902, but has not been found since then, despite many attempts. The work has been published in ZOOOTEYS magazine.
Alsodes Vittatus frog was described in 1902 by a German naturalist Rodulfo Amando Philippi, who received three samples from French Insect Philies Germain. Zering has discovered this type in 1893 in the former San Ignacio de Puskhei era in La Araukania. Since then, despite the multiple attempts to find this type, it was considered extinct.
In 2015 and 2016, Dr. Claudio Korea and Biuchic Khuan Pablo Donoso had campaigns in the north-western part of the former estate of the San Ignemia de Pampekhe. Then they managed to find populations of the Alsodes sex, but because of the lack of a white or yellow layer on his back, scientists have suggested that it is another type.
The main difficulty in the search was inaccurate information about the type of original detection.
