The Investigative Committee opened a case after the deaths of two Russians in Turkey

Investigators have opened a criminal case into the death of two crew members of a Russian ship who fell into the hold in a Turkish port, reports the Western Interregional Investigation Department for Transport of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

At the end of August, the Turkish newspaper Sabah wrote that two Russians, forty-six-year-old Konstantin Martynov and fifty-two-year-old Dmitry Mochalov, who were part of the crew of the Russian bulk carrier Navis 2, died in an accident off the coast of Balikesir province in western Turkey. A representative of the ship's operator confirmed that they died after falling into the hatch. The Russian Consulate General in Istanbul told RIA Novosti that it is in contact with local authorities regarding the repatriation of the bodies of the victims.

According to the investigation, preliminary, on August 23, on board the Russian vessel "Navis-2" during work at the berth of the port of Bandirma of the Turkish Republic, two crew members fell into the hold manhole. The men died from their injuries.

“The investigator has opened a criminal case on the fact of violation of labor protection requirements, which resulted in the death of two persons through negligence,” says the message of the MSUT SK.
