During the telephone conversation, Matvienko discussed his forthcoming visit with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Alain Simonyan. The conversation took place on the initiative of Yerevan.
"The interlocutors also discussed the details of the official visit to Yerevan at the invitation of his Armenian counterpart to give a new impetus to Russian-Armenian interstate relations," the statement said.
On January 15, the Minister of Defense of the Republic Suren Papikyan said that Armenia is interested in maintaining relations with Russia at a high level. He stressed that Armenia has no de facto participating in the CSTO, but the republic did not cancel any bilateral documents on relations with the Russian Federation and did not leave the organization.
