The European Union (EU) has suspended sanctions against Syria after the departure of Energy and Transport President Bashar al-Assad. This is stated in the statement of the EU Council.

"The Council has decided to suspend sectoral measures in energy (including oil, gas and electricity) and transport," the statement said.

At the same time, the EU has undone sanctions on four Syrian banks and Syrian Arabirlies. The EU has authorized funds and economic resources to the Central Bank of Syria.
