Karen Hakobyan, the director of the “Pure Iron” company, has been detained since September 20, 2024, according to his lawyers, in an obviously illegal manner.
“Fact” newspaper received information from employees of the “Pure Iron” factory that, prior to Karen Hakobyan’s detention, an agreement had been reached as a result of lengthy negotiations to make a new investment, with the prospects of increasing the salary fund and the company’s resources, but all of that was thwarted and hundreds of employees are currently in a difficult situation.
In general, regarding the criminal prosecution of Karen Hakobyan, experts note that this criminal case is in fact a criminalization of business transactions, which is extremely dangerous for the economic environment of Armenia. It is even more absurd that a person with the status of a businessman, who has never been previously tainted, has been illegally detained for more than 140 days. This is the only case since 2018 that a businessman has been detained on such charges for more than 140 consecutive days, although the issue of alternative measures of restraint has been constantly raised.
According to research, in cases where house arrest is used as a measure of restraint, the number of cases of violation of its conditions is not even 2% in statistical terms, and despite the fact that during these 140 days, businessman K. Hakobyan's lawyers had petitioned for house arrest to replace the arrest as a measure of restraint, they were constantly rejected, and the answer to this question, according to experts, is beyond jurisprudence.
