The head of Hezbollah's executive council, Hashem Safi al-Din, considered the main contender for the post of secretary general of the Lebanese Shiite party, was killed in an Israeli attack on Beirut.
This was reported by Al Arabiya TV channel, citing sources. Safi ad-Din, according to the TV channel, was killed in a strike carried out by the Israeli army on the southern suburbs of Beirut on Friday. Several officers of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps were killed along with him.
