The President of South Africa called to reform the IMF

Global international institutions, including the UN Security Council (SB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), need to be reformed to create a fairer and more efficient system of international organizations. The corresponding application was made by the President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa.

He emphasized in his weekly message to the people of South Africa that it is no longer possible to "leave the task of ensuring the security of the world in the hands of a few large states", especially "in a situation where the world community is faced with numerous and complex threats affecting all countries." the preservation of peace on the planet is unfair, dishonest and unstable, therefore the UN Security Council should be more representative and reflect the current composition of the organization, - said Ramaposa.

This means that international bodies like the UN and financial institutions like the IMF must be fundamentally reformed."

Ramaposa said that South Africa, being the country-chairman of the Group of Twenty (G20) during 2025, will seek to reform the structure of international organizations. "When South Africa assumes the presidency of the G20, we will focus on the needs and aspirations of Africa and the global South," the president noted.
