The permanent representatives of the 27 European Union countries approved the decision to end the visa-free regime for Georgian diplomats in the session held on Friday, due to the so-called diplomatic backlash in the country.
The source of the delegation of one of the community countries in the EU Council informed the TASS reporter about this.
"Yes, this morning the permanent representatives reached an agreement on the decision to suspend the visa-free regime for Georgian diplomatic passports," he said.
According to the diplomat, this decision must now be officially approved by the EU Council, which can be done on January 27 during the meeting of foreign ministers of the 27 member states.
On December 20, the European Commission officially proposed to end the visa-free regime for Georgian officials and diplomats.
