The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, will leave for a one-day visit to Lebanon to support the country's new leadership.
As Al Nahar newspaper reports, he will hold talks with the president of the republic, General Joseph Aoun, and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, who is tasked with forming a new government.
The Saudi Foreign Minister will visit Beirut for the first time in the last 15 years, which, as the publication writes, indicates Riyadh's desire to restore its position in Lebanon after the weakening of Iran's influence and the coming to power.
Speaking at the Davos World Economic Forum on January 21, Prince Faisal bin Farhan called the election of former Lebanese army commander Joseph Aoun as president on January 9 a positive step after more than two years of political crisis. He expressed hope that a new Lebanese government will be formed in the very near future.
