French police have arrested a 13-year-old student on suspicion of threatening to kill a teacher after she displayed religious cartoons from satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in class. Le Figaro writes about this.
The caricatures were made in the collective image of an imam, a Catholic priest, a rabbi and various political figures. During the class, the student was upset by this, and a week later she approached the teacher and said that one of the students wanted to kill her because of her actions during the class. The teacher filed a complaint with the prosecutor's office, and the girl was taken into custody for questioning. He admitted threatening the teacher but called it a "bad joke" because no one actually planned to harm him.
Law enforcement is now determining whether the student's actions could be seen as a direct threat to the person. According to the magazine, the teacher displayed the cartoons on January 8, a day after the annual memorial service for the victims of the 2015 terrorist attack at the magazine's offices.
