The second nuclear power plant in Belarus may appear in the area south of Mogilev, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced on Tuesday.
"Either we will expand the station in Ostrovets, or we have another internationally recognized site south of Mogilev where this station can be built.
There is no such thing as excess electricity, we will always use it up," Belta agency quotes Lukashenko as saying during a conversation with the workforce of the Minsk Automobile Plant and other enterprises of the holding.
He reminded that apartments with electric heating are being actively built in Belarus, electric transport is developing.
"If we build a second station, we will fully provide people with both transport and housing, so we will focus on that," the Belarusian president emphasized.
Belarus was implementing a project to build a nuclear power plant with two VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2.4 thousand MW in Ostrovets, Grodno Region.
