US President Donald Trump, speaking about the BRICS countries, called Spain one of the states of this association. The video was published by C-SPAN.
When the American leader signed executive orders shortly after taking office, a reporter in attendance asked him about the extremely low defense costs of NATO countries, specifically mentioning Spain and France. Trump responded by saying that Spain's spending is too little, after which he said that this country is part of BRICS.
"This is a BRICS country, Spain, do you know what a BRICS country is?" the president answered.
Then Trump repeated his threat to impose "at least 100 percent" tariffs on the BRICS countries.
