German Chancellor Olaf Scholz made an unexpected announcement about Russian President Vladimir Putin and newly elected US President Donald Trump. His words were quoted by the Tagesschau publicationLenta.
According to Scholz, Germany should remain the biggest supporter of Ukraine in Europe.
At the same time, he emphasized that the conflict should end through possible negotiations.
"In this sense, it is not bad news if the US president and the Russian president also want to meet," the politician said.
The last telephone conversation between Scholz and Putin took place on November 15, at the initiative of the German side. During the conversation, the chancellor announced the need to start a peaceful settlement in Ukraine.
