The second round of presidential elections has started in Croatia

Polling stations have opened in Croatia for the second round of the presidential elections, where the incumbent Zoran Milanović is fighting against the candidate Dragan Primorac, supported by the prime minister and the government, reports Euronews.

In the first round held on December 29, Milanović received 49.7% of the vote against seven other candidates, just short of half the number of ballots needed for an outright victory.

He was the leader of the Social Democrats for many years and spent most of his career in the opposition. Milanović served as the country's prime minister from late 2011 to early 2016. Before entering politics, Primorac was a pediatrician and university professor.

Primorac has been out of Croatian politics since 2009, when he tried to run an independent presidential campaign as science minister. During this year's election campaign, Primorac has presented himself as a non-confrontational candidate and a pro-Western figure.
