Two NATO ships will patrol the Baltic Sea to ensure infrastructure security. This was announced by Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen during a press conference.
"NATO is currently sending two ships," he said. "The broader presence of NATO has a calming and stabilizing effect, we are very happy that such a decision was made," says the Finnish Foreign Minister.
He argued that the vessels, which the West calls Russia's "shadow fleet," pose a threat to critical underwater infrastructure.
Earlier, Finnish President Alexander Stubb asked the alliance to strengthen its presence near the critical infrastructure in the Baltic Sea after damage to the EstLink 2 energy cable.
