Thailand has accepted the invitation to become a BRICS partner country with the hope of joining the association as a full member in the future, Nikondet Phalangkun, the official representative and head of the information department of the Thai Foreign Ministry, said at a briefing in Bangkok.
"On October 31, Thailand received an official invitation from BRICS partner Russia to become the BRICS president in 2024. On December 24, a government meeting was held, during which it was decided that Thailand will respond positively to this invitation," he said.
"On the same day, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand sent a letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, expressing Thailand's agreement to join BRICS as a partner country," added the head of the information department.
