Albania will be ready to join the European Union in 2028, Prime Minister Edi Rama said.
"Technically, we will be ready to join the EU in 2028," he said in an interview with the French newspaper Le Monde.
"I don't know whether the European Council will say yes or no to Albania," Rama added.
According to him, the process of joining the community remains "a political issue related to the internal dynamics of the EU and the electoral needs of the member states". The prime minister added that he hopes to use ChatGPT chatbot technologies to bring Albania's legislation into line with EU laws and thereby speed up the country's entry into the Union.
In October, the European Union began negotiations with Albania on the first set of issues related to its membership of the community. Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Peter Szijártó stated that Albania fully meets the criteria for membership negotiations, but "it will be a long and difficult process."
Albania received official EU candidate status in June 2014. The Council of the European Union has approved the start of negotiations on joining the community in March 2020. In July 2022, the EU started such negotiations with Albania.
