Yerevan Municipality continues to exercise strict control over voluntary constructions.
Tigran Avinyan announced this at the 4th session of the 3rd session of the Yerevan Council of Elders, emphasizing that the municipality is consistent in applying fines and monitoring the situation in case of construction without permission.
According to the mayor, after the adoption of the Yerevan Local Self-Government Law, the municipality will receive a new and more effective toolkit, including the "demolition requirement".
"This will mainly affect the structures that were built voluntarily and that will not be actually legalized in the future, the building permit related to them will certainly not be given. And as soon as the "demolition demand" is submitted, the builder of that voluntary building will be obliged to demolish it or face a series of very large fines," Avinyan said.
According to him, until now, by applying fines, the municipality has been able to significantly limit the construction of voluntary buildings. 24 billion drams have already been collected from this sector since the beginning of the year.
"If we had not accepted the project of fees in this form last year, the volume of development would have been much larger than it was," he said.
