About 800 square kilometers of water area has already been affected by the oil spill that occurred in the Black Sea near the entrance to the Kerch Strait, Sergei Stanichni, a specialist in remote sensing methods who cooperates with the maritime rescue service, told TASS.
"Over the entire period, the total area where pollution was found is about 800 square kilometers," Stanichni said.
He clarified that it cannot be said that the seabed in this entire area is polluted. fuel oil settles in separate areas, and the indicated area is the area where the passage of oil products through the surface layers of water was recorded. Meanwhile, leakage from the sunken tanker at the entrance to the strait continues, according to satellite photos taken on Monday.
The trajectory along which hazardous materials will move depends on the strength and direction of the wind, as well as the current situation of the currents in that region of the sea.
