Japanese scientists have launched the Lunar Glass NEO project to live on the moon

Specialists from the Center for the Study of Human Activities in Space, Kyoto University, one of Japan's oldest national universities, and Kajima Corporation have launched a joint project called Lunar Glass NEO, which involves creating a closed ecosystem with artificial gravity for human habitation on the Moon.

A joint study between Kyoto University and the Kajima Corporation titled ``Living Facilities on the Moon and Mars with Artificial Gravity'' was announced in 2022. The study identified and developed three key concepts for space habitation: artificial gravity, a limited ecosystem, and artificial gravity transport system," the press release said.

For the step-by-step implementation of all necessary concepts, the research will focus on the following stages: technical feasibility of the structure and design of objects, compatibility with human life, evaluation of the impact on the human body, as well as the creation of closed ecosystems, within the framework of the creation of objects for habitation on the Moon, for their further use .

"One of the goals of the research is also to start the creation of a similar object on Earth," the document states.

According to the presentation, the "residence" on the Moon will be made of glass, which resembles a paraboloid in shape and will be placed on a round pedestal. The diameter of the structure will be approximately 200 meters, and the height will be about 400 meters, which will create conditions for up to 10 thousand people to live. Thanks to the rotation, artificial gravity will be created inside the object, residential areas will be located along the walls of the structure.
