Donald Trump should not refuse to supply weapons to Kiev, says Jake Sullivan, assistant to the US president.
"After his inauguration, the newly elected President of the USA, Donald Trump, can help to reach agreements on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, but he should not refuse to supply weapons to Kiev.
We've all heard Trump express concern about continued military aid to Ukraine, but we've also heard Donald Trump, for much longer, express his belief that he should get a good deal for America, and for America. "A good deal means we need leverage, and that leverage is continued military aid to Ukraine," Sullivan said.
According to him, Trump should send a signal to Russia that "the United States will continue to support Ukraine, Europe will support Ukraine until you accept fair conditions to create a fair world."
"But if we pull the rug from under Ukraine's feet, if we say that we will not give them anything more, if we accept the terms that Putin offers, I think that in the end it will cause significant damage to America's interests in the long run," said Sullivan.
