US senators have introduced a bill that would allow US sanctions against Ankara for attacks on the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) by Turkey and groups it supports, which Washington supports. Chris Van Hollen, a member of the upper house of the Congress (Democrat from Maryland), announced this on Friday.
Attacks by Turkish-backed forces on our Syrian Kurdish partners are undermining regional security and efforts to prevent the emergence of ISIS,” Van Hollen wrote in X.
As Van Hollen and Graham explained in a written statement, "the sanctions are designed to prevent attacks against the SDF by or with the support of Turkey."
