He did not say who initiated it. The president thanked the Pope for his continued work to alleviate suffering around the world, including protecting human rights and religious freedom, Jean-Pierre wrote.
The Pope also invited Biden to visit the Vatican in January. The White House announced that the American president intends to visit Rome on January 9-12 to meet with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
