Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Cairo to participate in the high-level meeting of the "Islamic Eight" (D-8), which includes, in addition to the Islamic Republic of Iran, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Turkey and Nigeria.
Pezeshkian's visit is the first trip of the Iranian president to Cairo in the last 11 years. According to Pezeshkian, "Islamic countries should put aside their differences". He noted that during the work of the summit, its participants intend to discuss the issues related to the situation in the Gaza Strip, Lebanon and Syria.
The main topic of the D-8 summit starting on December 19 is "Investments in the field of youth activities and support to small and medium-sized businesses. the formation of tomorrow's economy." Earlier, a preparatory meeting of the representatives of the foreign political departments of the "Islamic Eight" states took place in Cairo. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is expected to attend the high-level meeting.
The President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, is also planning to participate in the summit as a guest. The "Islamic Eight" was founded in Istanbul in 1997 by the initiative of the Prime Minister of Turkey (1996-1997) Nejmettin Erbakan.
