The US presidential election took place in November without major disruptions or interference from foreign adversaries, despite electoral vulnerabilities and multiple threats, Special Assistant to the President Michael Carpenter said Wednesday.
"It's hard to understand how many mechanisms work behind the scenes to keep risks from becoming real threats to our national security, and the election is a prime example of that.
Despite all the vulnerabilities and many opponents who would like to interfere in our electoral process, we held elections in November without serious violations, without any foreign adversary being able to "pour sand into the mechanisms of our electoral process", he said while speaking at the Atlantic Council in Washington.
