The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, stated in her speech in the European Parliament that Russia wants to control Georgia, relying on its imperial past, when the generals said: "Whoever rules Tiflis, he rules the Caucasus." Zurabishvili noted that this mentality has not changed Russia is trying to reassert its influence on Georgia, not only through military, but also through electoral and constitutional interventions.
