Politico. The US fears that thousands of terrorists are escaping from Syrian prisons

United States officials fear that Islamic State (IS) militants held in Syrian prisons will make a mass escape. Politico writes about this.

According to the publication, militants and their families are kept in temporary prisons. They are guarded by "Kurdish forces supported by the United States, which have a limited amount of weapons." We are talking about 9,000 militants and another 50,000 people, including women and children.

"I usually don't like this cliché, but this is like a ticking time bomb. If Turkey doesn't stop these attacks against the Syrian Democratic Forces, we could cause a big prison break," said the official, who wished to remain anonymous. said the newspaper.

As the publication writes, "Turkey considers the Kurdish formations as the main security threat." Most of the captured militants are from Iraq and Syria, with many from Europe, Central Asia and North America, including the U.S. However, the countries are "in no rush to repatriate," Politico said.

Most of the Syrian provinces of Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, and Hasakah, located in the east and northeast of the Arab Republic, are currently controlled by the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which are supported by the United States. The USA has established nine military bases in these regions.
