Italy has granted citizenship to the President of Argentina, Javier Millay

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has granted citizenship to Argentine President Javier Millei, Reuters reports, citing their sources.

On December 13, Millay visited Italy to attend a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the annual congress of the "Brothers of Italy" party. Millais received Italian citizenship based on the Italian ancestry of her ancestors. His paternal grandfather and grandmother were residents of Calabria, the southern region of Italy, who later migrated to Argentina.

Italian citizenship was granted under the principle of jus sanguinis ("by right of blood"). Before granting citizenship, the Italian authorities conducted an investigation to confirm that Millei's grandfather, Francesco Millei, was indeed a resident of Italy.
