France has appointed a new prime minister

Francois Bayrou, the 73-year-old centrist leader of the "Democratic Movement" (Modem) party, has been appointed the new prime minister of France, reports Agence France-Presse, referring to the Elysee Palace.

"Francois Bayrou has been appointed Prime Minister," the office of the French President announced.

Last week, the French Parliament passed a vote of no confidence in French Prime Minister Barnier, who was promoted by the left-wing "Unbowed France" party. 331 out of 577 parliamentarians voted for him.
