Xi Jinping may decline Trump's invitation to attend his inauguration

US President-elect Donald Trump has sent invitations to various world leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, to participate in his inauguration ceremony, which will take place on January 20. However, the Chinese leader will reject the invitation, reports CBS News, citing sources familiar with the topic.

China's ambassador to the US and his wife are expected to attend the inauguration, which is standard practice. CBS News sources also noted that they may be joined by other officials from Beijing.

On December 12, Donald Trump's press secretary Caroline Leavitt confirmed the information about sending an invitation to Xi Jinping.

The Chinese Embassy in Washington declined to comment. The Associated Press agency, in turn, reports that according to experts, Xi Jinping will not go to Washington in January, taking into account security issues, the Taiwan issue, Trump's promise to impose 60% tariffs after the inauguration.
