France calls for the withdrawal of troops from the Golan

Any deployment of troops in the buffer zone of the Golan region is a violation, France declared and called on Israel to withdraw its troops from there.

The representative of the Republic's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced this in a briefing. The French Foreign Ministry reminded that the deployment of troops in the Golan region is a violation of the 1974 Syrian-Israeli agreement on the separation of forces.

"France reaffirms its full support for the UN Observer Force in the Golan, whose security must be ensured," the agency said.

On December 8, the Israeli army announced that it had taken positions in the buffer zone of the Golan Heights, which separated the territories under Israeli and Syrian control since 1974.

The Prime Minister of the Jewish State, Benjamin Netanyahu assured that it is a temporary defensive measure aimed at curbing possible threats to his country from the Syrian direction.
