Migrant children in Russia will not be admitted to school without knowledge of the Russian language

At the plenary session of the Russian State Duma, in the second and third reading, a bill was passed, which prohibits the admission of migrant children who do not know Russian. 409 deputies voted for the document, one against, TASS reports.

The initiative was presented to the State Duma by a group of deputies from all five factions, led by Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin and Deputy Speaker Irina Yarova. the latter heads the migration policy committee of the State Duma.

According to the adopted law, foreign citizens will be admitted to basic public schools upon presentation of a document confirming the legality of their stay in the territory of the Russian Federation. At the same time, in order to enter the school, it will be necessary to successfully pass a test of knowledge of the Russian language. The testing will be carried out free of charge.

"Persons who have not passed the test of Russian language proficiency sufficient for the study of preliminary general, basic general and secondary general educational programs will not be allowed to learn these educational programs," the text says.

The new rules will come into effect on April 1, 2025.
